A week like any other...

Its that time in the semester when things kind of seem to drag on and the thought of finals is looming ever closer.We both need a break. Thank goodness its Thanksgiving. Especially, with the blizzard that is suspected to overwhelm Provo tonight. In the meantime, we've kept ourselves busy. Here are some of the things we've been up to:

Hiked the Y with the Brandleys. It was a little chilly, but really not that bad. Its now covered with snow. Its crazy how much things can change in a week.

BYU Basketball vs. UT state. It was an awesome game and we love our cougars!

Gotta love Jimmer.Have to admit that I loved when the cow balloon started being passed through the crowd. Silly aggies.

Football game on Saturday vs. New Mexico- I made Y cookies. Sugar cookies always make the party. That and the fact that we dominated!

One more week in the semester down... only a few more to go and then its Christmas!

ICU clinical at U of U Hospital

I am always amazed at how fast a semester really flies by. It never fails that at the beginning of the semester I'm always a nervous wreck with the question, "How am I going to do it all?" I never know how everything is going to work out, how I'm going to work part-time, go to school full-time (15.5 credits this semester), do clinicals, sleep, exercise, and NOT go crazy. Ever since I've started nursing school, I've been saying that "I probably won't be able to work this semester, the schedule is just too insane", but every semester I've been able to make it happen and now I'm almost done!

This semester I've been studying ICU and Pscyh nursing. To throw another curveball into the mix, I was assigned to the University of Utah Hospital in Salt Lake which is a one hour drive on a good day! I really wasn't all that excited for the semester or to be in ICU (I had heard horror stories about how hard it was), but it doesn't really matter what I was feeling because the semester has to start sometime. Now, looking back on the 8 weeks of clinical I completed at the University of Utah hospital, I am a teensy bit sad that it's over. Don't get me wrong, I'm relieved that I'm not longer driving up to Salt Lake twice a week and I don't have huge clinical assessment assignments, but I really did enjoy my time up there.

Side note: Just because I absolutely fell in love with the University of Utah Hospital, does not mean that I endorse and/or support University of Utah or its football team.

Before I know it, clinical isn't going to be a class anymore, it will be the real thing... I can't wait!

I am a Cougar!

I am a true blue, through and through BYU cougar. This year we've got all-sports passes and have really gotten to appreciate the football season for all of its beauty. I love it.

When the power goes out...

At approximately 6:50 a.m. today, I was in my shower minding my own business, reveling in the good workout I'd just had at the gym, and thinking about the wonderfully rainy day ahead when all of a sudden everything went dark. Our power went out and I was quite abruptly in darkness. As you will remember, I was still in the shower.

Realization of the day: I am not a fan of this whole "shower in complete darkness" concept.

For some reason, I felt like I was in some kind of horror film and I was going to get attacked in the shower by some stranger of the night who had cut the lines and broken into our house. Admittedly, my thoughts were a little on the dramatic side. Thankfully, I survived the experience and I was able to get myself dressed, hair done, makeup applied, and lunch made without the use of even a flashlight. New talents I never knew I had.

Pumpkin Dinner

For Halloween, I wanted to make something fun and different. What better way to celebrate Halloween than to cook lasagna INSIDE of a pumpkin!? We invited friends over and had a feast. It was tasty, and although a little time-consuming, it was delicious! We also served it with butternut squash soup, homemade french bread, salad, and chips/dip. Yum. The recipe for sugar pumpkin lasagna is from one of my favorite food blogs- The Crepes of Wrath.

A Myer Family Weekend

Over Halloween weekend, we were lucky to have both of my sisters and my Dad to share it with! Riley is going to school here at BYU right now so we get to see her all the time (and her new joined-at-the-hip best friend "boy Riley"). McKenna flew up for the weekend and my dad worked out a way to layover in Salt Lake for a day on his way home from a business trip in Washington D.C. Activities for the weekend:

Halloween Half Marathon (see previous post)

Malawi's Pizza- a new restaurant in the Riverwoods...we would highly recommend it. Their slogan is, "Pizza with a Purpose"- they donate a meal to Africa each time they sell a pizza. Plus, everything they cook is fresh and they pride themselves on selling health pizza. Whole wheat crust even!

A trip to Grandpa Peter's house. They are doing all sorts of remodeling and it looks awesome! They are even building a room on the top of their house that has a glass ceiling. Gotta love my Grandpa.
Plus he has all sorts of treasures in his basement... nude sculptures and Life magazines from the beginning of time.
