Finals over: wintertime in Provo!

Finally I just have a second to slow down and take a deep breath.  Finals are done and OVER!  It's been a long semester, but an awesome one.  Chad and I both went to school, worked at our various places of employment, and began our lives as "The Bennett Family".  It was a semester of "firsts": first time we had to buy a new bottle of ketchup, first time we had to juggle work/school/married life, first time we didn't go home for Thanksgiving, first time hosting thanksgiving dinner at our house, first new bike purchased, first time a close friend was diagnosed with cancer, first Christmas, new Christmas traditions, first time riding your bike through a blizzard to get to school, etc.

But now fall semester is over, winter is really here.  The last couple of days it has snowed like crazy.  The first couple of days were a little bit frustrating what with the slowed pace of life just trying to get places.  However, I think I'm really starting to like the snow.  At least I'm getting used to driving in it when the roads are icy.  I love to look out the window first thing in the morning and see the ground covered in what looks like frosting, all of the trees' branches lined with a thin white line, outlining its delicate shape.  This is what our house looks like:

Last night, we called Courtney and Ben Hugo to help us feel the Christmas season.  We made a quick trip to Albertsons and then spent the evening making gingerbread houses (minus the gingerbread) and watching Elf.

It's kind of fun to continue some of the holiday traditions that I have grown up with... gingerbread house contests were always some of my favorites.  Christmas is definitely different with just Chad and I, but I love it.  We can't wait for next Tuesday when we will hop in the car and drive down to Las Vegas and California to celebrate Christmas with our family.

White Elephants Wearing Ugly Sweaters... Merry Christmas!

Our friends at the Riv threw an awesome Christmas party last Tuesday night, December 16th (halfway through finals).  White Elephants Wearing Ugly Sweaters was the dubbed party's name, and it was just that.  Chad and I both borrowed sweaters from friends (some of the funniest sweaters I have ever seen) and wrapped up a wedding present that has been sitting in our extra room for the last 7 months.  Looking at the picture above with both our sweaters, I'm sure you're not surprised to know that Chad and I won the ugliest sweater contest.  Well, I think Chad won first, but I came in at a close second.

Jacie and Chad wearing their matching slippers:
Chad and his best friend Shaners... both looking a little fruity.
The lucky boy who won our priceless, fake crystal frame with swans on it during the fast-paced White Elephant gift exchange.
Shane and the dinosaur he won.
The hot pink "hottie" stocking that just gravitated towards us during the game...

Jacie, Willi, and I.  I love these girls!

Double Date time: BYU Basketball Game

So as most people have probably been able to figure out, Jacie Bowen is my best friend, Shane Saltzman is Chad's best friend, they are dating, and we do pretty much everything with them.  All four of us all fit together so well, it just makes doing things together so easy and so much fun!  On Friday (Chad's only day that he gets off early enough to do something), we decided to go to Winger's for dinner and then head on over to the BYU basketball game.  I have actually never been to Wingers before and it was quite good.  Chad absolutely loved the spicy chicken wings he ordered and I'm sure we'll go there again.
After Wingers, we drove back over to the Marriott Center for the game.  The ground was EXTREMELY icy and we had quite the entertaining time trying to even get there... the boys, of course, thought it was great and purposefully skated almost the whole way there.
Most awesome old ladies I have ever seen performing at half time... (aka. future Jacie)
Family! (apparently we adopted Shane)

All I want for Christmas...

For the past couple of months, Chad has been talking about getting a new bike. Not only has he really started to love mountain biking (I know, starting to sound like my dad), but his old bike is starting to fall apart. It hasn't been the most conducive situation to mountain biking down rough and rocky trails. We've been starting to put aside money from our lucrative parking business during BYU Football games in the hopes of maybe being able to buy one in the next year or so. I was talking to my parents on the phone about Chad's hope to get a new bike pretty soon, and of course they jumped into action. The day before my family was about to drive up to Utah for Thanksgiving, my dad stopped by a bike store, found one he liked that he got a really good deal for, bought it, and brought it up to Utah from California.

I couldn't believe that my family had hopped into action so quickly, but I guess I should have known. My dad is excited beyond belief that his new son-in-law loves mountain biking as much as he does! So Chad got his beloved Christmas present at Thanksgiving and even got a few chances to break it in before it really started to snow in Provo. It's exciting to see how much he loves that bike. Now that it really is too cold to ride, everytime he stops and looks at his shiny new bike in our living room, he has to jump on it and ride around a little bit... inside. Merry Christmas Chad!

My niece: a girl after my own heart

For my sister-in-law Kimber's birthday, her husband Jason suprised her with a date night to Tepanyaki, and I got asked to step in to babysit for my favorite niece Kenzie! The whole time I was there, Kenzie's favorite pastime was pulling out all of the books from her bookshelf and then flipping through the pages or having me read them to her. I'm proud to know that my niece is carrying on the tradition of loving books!

Nickelcade

We decided that we all wanted to relive our childhood, and on "operation cheap date" (planned by the boys), went to the Nickelcade for a night of fun. I'll be honest, I don't ever remember playing arcade games. Maybe once or twice for a birthday party, but it was just not really a part of my growing up experience. Shane and Chad, on the other hand, seemed to know every game in the store and tried to convey to me exactly how cool and fun they were.
Jacie and Chad competed in the frog racing game for the title of champion... Bennett family wins again!
Riding the merry-go-round...
No hands or feet!
The epitome of white trash... a small, electrical ride on toy of a Wal-mart truck in a Nickelcade. Gotta love it.
Going to space. I can't believe we even fit in there.
