Haircut Time

So until last night, I had never EVER cut anyone's hair before, but good news: I'm not too bad at it! Chad likes to get his haircut about every 3 weeks or so (at least once a month) and we've been saying the last couple of times that I just need to cut it so we can save the $12 and use it for something else. I kept volunteering half-heartedly for the job, a little bit afraid of my nonexistant skills in the hair cutting department, but Chad kept telling me that I could do it! He was right! (lucky for him) It only took a couple of minutes, and now he's looking handsome :) (secret confession: I thought it was kind of fun!)

Enrichment: Subliminal Messaging (not so subliminal)

So it turns out that once you are in a BYU married student ward, enrichment activities become part of this grand conspiracy to make you want to have kids. Who knew? I'm even on the enrichment committee and I never even saw it coming! For our activity, we made these super cute onesies with animals and designs appliqued on, all with cute fabrics, and stitched around the edges to add a personal touch to them. Here's how they turned out:

Cute bird (still need to stitch around the edges)

Fun Green Elephant... i named him Jeffery.

Caterpillar work-in-progress (still need to finish stitching and sew on eyes and antennae)

After the baby onesies, we also made baby girl hair clips with just plain metal alligator clips and cute ribbon. Here are the few that I made:

Shooting at Hobble Creek

This past Wednesday night, Chad and I got together with Shane (Chad's friend from work), Courtney (someone Chad knows from Vegas, and Adam & Rachel (Chad's favorite person to shoot guns with and the reason he wants a gun of his own!). We drove up by Hobble Creek with a couple of shotguns and a box of clay pigeons and spent an hour or so practicing our shots. Chad has gotten good at shooting at least 2 or 3 pigeons while we were there, while I still can't hit one to save my life. (Only shot 1 out of the last 2 shooting expeditions) Oh well, I guess I'm just going to have to keep practicing.

All 3 girls shooting

Bread-making

For the past couple of weeks, Chad has been telling me about this legendary bread that someone in one of the areas on his mission used to make for the missionaries. It was apparently "the best bread I've ever eaten. period." He managed to get the top secret family recipe and so I decided to try my luck at bread-making. Here it is:

I think it turned out pretty well, even if they didn't taste exactly like the originals. But it was only my first time every trying and it was actually kind of easy! I made 2 loaves and they were gone in about 2 days. I think I'll just have to keep practicing until I can get them just right.

House = Home

So I'm starting to feel like our house has really become a home and I love it! This past weekend, we got a new rug (It was on clearance at a fantastic place called Home Fabrics), put a few more pictures on the wall and hung three paper lanterns in assorted colors (leftover from the wedding) from the ceiling. We've finally been able to make this room truly ours and it hasn't been too expensive either!
The paper lanterns leftover from our wedding add a fun touch of color to the room.
This is the new rug... the little colored squares alternate between maroon, green, red, brown, and orange. It matches perfectly in our room!

South Fork Canyon: Camping!

Friday after work, Chad and I jumped into the truck with our new Wedding-gift-camping-gear and our bikes and headed up to South Fork Canyon. After unloading the truck, we set up camp in this beautiful little hide-away spot by the river, it was beautiful. It was nice to be out and away from everything else. The only thing we could hear was the happy babbling sounds of the little stream and the rustling of trees.

We explored the little stream for a little bit, and I even fell in a little bit, getting my shoes soaking wet.
I decided to challenge chad to a boat racing competition, this was my boat:
Chad's boat (a folded paper trash bag) and my little raft raced down the river. Unfortunately, my raft got caught on the rock in the middle and Chad's made it to the dam first. Oh well, it was a valiant effort.
Our tent was only a couple of feet from the stream; it was like having one of those sound machines to help put you to sleep. We slept almost ten hours it was so peaceful!

The next morning we slept in before getting up to pack up all the camping gear and then heading out onto the bike trail. Chad has been a regular of this tucked away, little trail after a friend took him here once, but this was my second time. The trail is mostly about shoulder-width apart and winds back and forth across the river on small, wooden bridges. For the first twenty-five minutes, it is all uphill and quite a workout I must say, but I love it. The scenery is absolutely gorgeous with tall trees growing up on either side of the trail, keeping it mostly shaded, a happy little stream, and butterflies everywhere.

Chad in his sweet biking jersey... my sexy husband.

The little stream in the background... loved it.
The happy, biking couple.

At one point towards the end of the ride, as you are beginning to go back down, the trail opens into a huge meadow. I seriously felt like we were in the Sound of Music. In honor of the moment, I went frolicking about in the meadow:
Dandelion: make a wish!

It was such a fun little trip out in the wilderness for a weekend! The weather was beautiful, the scenery couldn't have been more pretty, and the biking was awesome. Another fun weekend for the Bennett family...

a beautiful sunday afternoon...

One of our fun, new traditions as the "Bennett Family" has been to go on a bike ride on Sunday morning or Sunday afternoon. Now these rides are nothing like our mountain biking expeditions, but instead a leisurely ride down the Provo River trail. Sometimes I find it hard to believe that we are still in Provo because the river is so pretty with the trees growing tall on either side. My favorite spot is a small clearing off the main trail where we are right next to the river and a single swing hangs down off a large sweeping branch. It really is beautiful. Even though I'm no fan of the heat, when winter comes I will definately miss our the sunny, beautiful bike rides of Sunday morning.
